Jake Houston

Jake Houston is 17 years old, a former pupil of Fourtowns Primary School and a current pupil at Cambridge House Grammar. He has been playing the flute since the age of 6 tutored by his father Glen Houston and Manchester Flute Professional Stephen Clark. Jake has held key positions within the National Children’s Orchestra of GB, The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, The National Youth Orchestra of GB and this year will hold principal chair with The Ulster Youth Orchestra. Jake is a former Primary School Young Musician of the Year and also a top 3 finalist in the prestigious Azumi European Flute competition adjudicated by Gareth Davies, principal flute with the London Symphony Orchestra. During 2019 Jake has performed on BBC Radio and has travelled and performed throughout Europe with performances at the Albert Hall BBC proms, the Royal Festival Hall, The Concertgebou Amsterdam and most recently at the Koncerthaus Berlin. Jake looks forward to joining his brother Ross this year as they both travel to Switzerland to study with Sir James Galway. Jake and Ross Houston are the first siblings to both win the prestigious title of Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year.
